Umbrella Massacre
This afternoon I met a client downtown near George Washington University and the State Department.

bia Plaza is a hidden courtyard located off 23rd Street. You walk under a overhanging building to reach it.
laza was large and open, surrounded by modern apartment buildings and commercial spaces on the ground floor. It was a great example of mixed use planning and (semi)public space.
ently, George Washington students meet up here, sit outside, and grab a bite to eat at Sizzling Express or one of the other stores.
sunny day it is bound to get warm on the plaza if you are sitting at a table without an umbrella for shade. The only bad part about the plaza is that it really needs more trees.
ly after I sat down at a table it started drizzling, so I retreated to a table under the overhang that surrounds the plaza.
meeting with my client the weather got increasingly violent, with the winds picking up more and more speed. Finally the umbrellas started flapping in the wind and then eventually were torn to shreds.
the rain let up I headed back to the metro, but stopped to snap a picture of this building and its reflection in the street.
